Big Dog's Brewing Company
Big Dog's Draft House has officially completed its extreme makeover.
The property at 4543 N. Rancho Drive, near Craig Road, recently celebrated the grand opening of the Big Dog's Brewing Company inside the Draft House. The 15-barrel brewery system that has been in the works since before the original Holy Cow microbrewery on the Strip closed last year was just part of the property's 3,400 square-foot addition.
"The new microbrewery is state of the art," said Maria Antonio, director of business development and marketing for Big Dog's Hospitality Group. "We also put in over 20 big-screen (televisions) and an all-new audio and video system. (The Draft House) has been redecorated, repainted and re-carpeted."
The Draft House has been a staple in the northwest area of town since it opened about 15 years ago. Antonio said long-time bar regulars seem to like all the changes.
"They are always leery in the beginning, but now they're very excited about it. They have been our best advertisers because they have been talking it up and people have been coming in to check it out," she said.
"They love it," said general manager Rich Thornton, "because it still has all the comfortable qualities of the old Draft House, but we've just modernized it and made it better."
The changes include the installation of sports betting kiosks.
"You don't even have to leave the bar to do football and basketball betting," Antonio said.
The new, improved Draft House also features a brand new menu.
"All of our new steaks are going to be premium Hereford beef," Antonio said. "We have a new pizza oven, and we're going to do our own Black Lab Stout ice cream. It's so good, even if you're not a beer drinker, you will love it."
Antonio said that Wisconsin "cheesehead" fans who used to gather at the Holy Cow Casino Cafe & Brewery have adopted the Big Dog's Draft House as their new home.
"We are still the largest Packers clubhouse in Nevada," she said.
Most importantly, the new facility offers 12 original beers on tap, eight more than were available at the old Holy Cow brewery.
"We'll be carrying so many different varieties of beer," she said, "from light to red and pale and wheat beers."
Big Dog's Hospitality Group president Kurt Wiesner said he is thrilled to have the new brewery on board because it was something his father always wanted. "It was a dream of our founder (Tom Wiesner) to have a microbrewery in the northwestern valley."

Can't go wrong with plain old Bud.
Heineken, Labatt's, Moosehead, etc. , all are fine.
For a very good budget beer, if you live anywhere near New york. Try Genessee Cream Ale. It's cheaper than Bud, haven't had it years. I'll have to buy a case !
